@siracusa @RecDiffs When you said, ”’French dip was invented by an American whose last name was French.’ That's not actually true, but there's something very similar to that, that is true, that I can’t remember right now,” I was almost certain you were thinking of caesar salad, which was invented by Caesar Cardini, an Italian immigrant living in San Diego and working in Tijuana, Mexico in 1924, and has no connection to Julius Caesar or ancient Rome (not the French drain).
@marcoarment Overcast says I have “no space left” for the latest episode of APT, despite having over 96 GB free and despite the episode streaming just fine. I’ve seen this a few times since the July rewrite and thought it might be fixed in the September update, but it was not, so I’m letting you know here and now.
I took a video that prompted this episode of @robot by @jsnell and @siracusa. Are self-driving airport wheelchairs robots?

Airport Wheelchair (Robot or Not? 290)

Listener Erik sent us this video of self-navigating wheelchairs in the Miami Airport. Does the Roomba Rule apply?

@atpfm Casey and John will blame each other for this, but it’s actually Marco’s fault.

@atpfm @siracusa Apple IDs are not required to be email addresses. I still use “sferik” as my Apple ID and hope I don’t have to change it to an email address if the rumor about Apple Accounts turns out to be true.

@RecDiffs The word “realize” itself is actually another example of this. It wasn’t until after college that I put together that “realize”, in one sense, means to make real. For much of my life, I thought they were unrelated words. And in this case, I can’t offer different pronunciation as an excuse.

Just thought it was funny that “realize” is a thing it took me too long to realize.

@RecDiffs I have a whole category of things it took me too long to realize. I call it unconnected roots. For example, the root of “maniacal” is “maniac”. It took me far too long to make the connection between these two words, probably because they’re pronounced differently. I think if I had read “maniacal” before hearing it, I would have realized the connection (and might pronounce it maniac-al).
