I miss the future that we were going to have when the cyber-tubes were still cooling.

Okay, so I've been talking about the ways that Big AI directly harms kids. But what can we *do* about it? Here are some things you can do, at work and and your kid's school, to take action today, complete with scripts to follow: https://www.anildash.com/2026/02/23/taking-action-ai-harms/

The number one thing I've been hearing from people in tech lately is, basically, "How the hell am I supposed to work in this industry anymore?" Though most folks are kind of afraid to say it out loud. So I wrote about how to think about it: https://www.anildash.com/2026/01/05/a-tech-career-in-2026/
How the hell are you supposed to have a career in tech in 2026?

California residents now have a real tool against the data broker industry.

The state has launched DROP, a single portal to demand deletion of your personal data from 500+ registered data brokers in one request, for free.

I went for a New Years run in the rain during a king tide. The birds seemed to like the change of scenery.

That's a problem in ML that is *very* worth exploring - can local/edge non-networked devices with wearable sensors tracking pulse, respiration, and any other useful data such as accelerometers to detect falls be produced that can trigger local alarms? Is that an "easy" edge problem or is such tech unavailable to elderly without internet connections and without the ability to pay for monitoring services? #ml #health #wearable #offline #local #edgeai #localai #eldercare #publichealth
