Sequel is a social platform from a parallel universe.

@[email protected] @msavoritias @SrRochardBunson @atomicpoet I think the client end is exactly the problem. The majority of users don't have much choice what client to use. And most of the widely available browsers do what you may not want them to do. Plus a battery of privacy plugins would be required.

One of the appealing features of Gemini is that we are back to the situation that anyone can build a functional client in almost no time, it's so simple. Like it used to be with HTTP/HTML.

Sequel App v0.17.0 is out! The main feature of this release is the Reader Mode. If you would like to see the timeline of a bubble/spark/world as if you were reading a diary, in chronological order, without any distractions, the Reader Mode is a way to do it. In fact, this is the way it works in the Sequel's Gemini interface (gemini://sequel.space). Try it out by selecting Reader Mode in the bubble/spark/world's context menu.

This release also contains the following updates and bug fixes:

- Post not visible after publishing - Make IndexedDB stored data spark specific - Handling of duplicate images in the same post - Fix author visualisation on individual post page

@atomicpoet thank you for finding us!

Happy New Earth Year!

The dev team started it with a big upgrade. Sequel App has been migrated from Sapper to SvelteKit 🚀

It enables the team to start working on new, bigger features planned for 2023.

The release also includes several bug fixes, including:

* Post updates: updated content not visible * Bookmark removal doesn't refresh timeline

Enjoy! 😇

This is the ActivityPub traffic for https://sequel.space (number of requests, instance discovery excluded) for the last 3 months. It kinda paints the picture what's happening in the #Fediverse.

Sequel
It's been a while since we posted. Due to a dependency on third-party tech (Flow) going fully live, platform development was delayed by almost 6 months. The team wasn't idle but we concentrated mainly on internal platform improvements and a framework for representing digital assets. But then the pace accelerated quite a bit. We open-sourced the Sequel App in May 2022 (https://github.com/piprate/sequel-app). Development is now well under way to open up the data exchange framework that underpins Sequel.

@nolan, and after spending almost 2 months on the migration alone, we can understand why. It was quite laborious. We’ll share the intermediate code too, even though it may be a bit hairy. Happy to connect and walk you through, when ready.
@nolan @[email protected] yes, indeed. The source code will be available under AGPL. We also ported it to Svelte 3, which may be useful for Pinafore.
@aral thank you for doing your research 😉 The quote is related to B2B marketing but it's equally relevant to individuals. Piprate has recently backed a bike insurance product where any collected cyclists' data remains with the cyclists, instead of ending up in a corporate vault. No tracking, no covert data appropriation/reselling, no unauthorised access. We believe this is a more fair way to do it.

@humanetech thank you!

We will be sharing more about the #NFT piece in the coming weeks. @sequel is about imagination, and NFTs are an interesting medium that can cross the boundary between the real and imaginary worlds 🌈
