So I finally turned a recent popular post here into a proper story.

Teen on Musk’s DOGE Team Graduated from ‘The Com’

Wired reported this week that a 19-year-old working for Elon Musk‘s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was given access to sensitive US government systems even though his past association with cybercrime communities should have precluded him from gaining the necessary security clearances to do so. As today’s story explores, the DOGE teen is a former denizen of ‘The Com,’ an archipelago of Discord and Telegram chat channels that function as a kind of distributed cybercriminal social network for facilitating instant collaboration.

@NewtonMark at a table that could easily accommodate 8-10 people, right?
@Pontificator_OMF @GossiTheDog not to point out the obvious, but i can’t see the odd outage being a good enough reason to stay hybrid.
@GossiTheDog you just described the first 6-12 months at my previous job.
My second day, thrown into incident response / recovery for a new client that got owned. Spent ~6 months getting them back online, I never properly completed any of my onboarding / induction requirements, so knew little about the job I was hired to do or the systems to do it.
12 months later they still had broken functionality, they are now a managed client. It was pretty clear staff had a form of PTSD, as they would get anxious every time the client submitted a ticket.

@shanehuntley Former employer was predominantly located in the US & UK, so the small team (by comparison) we had in Australia was often making sacrifices when trying to line up meetings. UK in particular is a hard one.

Best we could come up with was alternating times. This week, AU team meets at 9pm, next week it’s UK’s turn.

Not a major issue, but one that can’t realistically be solved.

@GossiTheDog this, this made me laugh 😂
@babyfangs HA, yup it’s me alright!

You ever eat a bucketload of chilli, and I’m not just talking about having a spicy meal. I mean it’s smothered in chilli, and you feel the burn, but it’s so tasty that you just keep eating and eating. You get light headed, your arms get weak, somehow your hearing gets all weird and almost muffled.

That’s me right now….

@troyhunt everyone says it’s best day of your life, until you’ve experienced it, you can’t quite understand that feeling. Enjoy and congrats!
