More than 100 students walked out of embattled Harvard professor John L. Comaroffâs class Tuesday afternoon, protesting his continued presence on campus after he was placed on leave last year for violating the Universityâs sexual harassment policy.

Absolutely nuts. A bill proposed in ND to require misgendering of trans and non-binary people by all schools, colleges, universities, agencies, and companies that receive state funding. If a personâs gender is disputed, the question is to be settled not by asking them, but by performing a chromosomal genetic test.

This bill though is the first to target employers receiving state funding and would require such pronouns in all policies, records, forms, rules, standards, procedures, training, guidance, correspondence, advertising, and marketing.
It is state-mandated forced misgendering.
It's been publicly reported since mid-2021 that I'm a survivor of child abuse.
What has not been publicly reported is that my father, who admits to physically abusing me as a child, is a sitting professor at #UofM, whom the #umich administration has refused to investigate.
I'd hoped to avoid publicizing this. When I first heard that my father allegedly had other victims, I pursued my own case w/ UM's OIE (now ECRT) repeatedly since June 2021. As an alumni, I'd hoped they'd take the issue seriously. Instead, they declared it not their problem.
I understand that university administrators are busy. I realize that they do not wish to adjudicate inter-family cases. But when a sitting professor is a self-confessed child beater, I think it's reasonable to ask for some oversight into him. And when the victim he admits to abusing is an international figure whom the university seeks to invite to speaking engagements, I think it's reasonable to have a no-contact order in place.
At the meet & greet, you will get to meet old and new SGMA members as well as allies across the AAS. Refreshments and ice breaker games are also provided!
At the panel discussion at UW, we will focus on helping queer astronomers navigate academic and personal lives through this current wave of anti-LGBTQIA sentiment, especially anti-trans legislation across the United States. Hope to see you at AAS and at our events!
