I often say that election security is by far the hardest technical problem I've ever encountered. Why? Four reasons:
1) Contradictory critical requirements, particularly vote secrecy vs. transparency.
2) No truly neutral trusted third parties.
3) Election do-overs are generally impossible, so the ability to merely detect problems is insufficient. You have to reliably prevent them.
4) Much of the technology than can manage the complexity of elections is inherently untrustworthy.
Wall Street banks are set to hit a trillion dollars in profit over the past decade.
Meanwhile, the net worth of middle-class families continues to decline.
Folks, this is unsustainable.
Somewhere in the U.S. Capitol, Dem staffers are working on speeches to be given on the House floor January 6th if Rebublicans still haven't chosen a Speaker.
"Two years ago today, the same people who today are preventing the House from doing its work on behalf of the American people, aided and abetted an angry mob that tried that day to prevent the entire U.S. congress from doing the very same thing."
I have some predictions for 2023.
