Hi! I'm a researcher interested in technical-social systems, particularly those that affect the public and/or the environment. I also enjoy cycling!
Scientists: When giving a talk about your probability analysis of something, please do not say, "these are the numbers from our posterior" without adding "distribution".

Hello Fediverse!

I have set up a new, self-hosted shop for my bigger, more expensive illuminations.
It has a few of my most successful paintings now, and I will add more in the next few days.

You are welcome to take a look at the shop:

Boosts are most welcome to help me with that Big Launch. Thank you so much! 🥰

PS: The Ko-fi shop will remain active for smaller items such as bookmarks, Japanese paper dolls, cyanotypes, etc.

Proposal: Call companies that use dark patterns Creeper Companies. We have a word for people we don't trust to respect consent or boundaries and we should use that word.

Also Dark Patterns just makes it sound cool instead of gross. This needs a name that sounds less like a Nordic Folk Metal band you are not cool enough to know about

If you think getting past a reviewer in something PNAS is hard, I got one for you that might be harder! Frontiers for Young Minds, where the reviewer can be a literal 10 years old.
If you're a science educator, I highly recommend checking out this journal. A lot of eye-level, high-quality texts, written by scientists, reviewed by kids.

Do I have any indigenous people in my bubble here who would be willing to talk about agriculture and stewardship for the land with me?

I am writing my master thesis on regenerative agriculture and one theme that keeps coming up is how many of the techniques popular with regenerative agriculture have been practiced by you for centuries.

I would prefer not to talk about you without talking to you, so if you have a contact, please let me know.

A re- #introduction toot: I'm yet another c. 2022 fosstodonian who found a new home in the fediverse. I'm a photographer & a retired fine art framer based in Reno, Nevada, (USA) & I'm in the process of moving to the Four Corners region. I've been running Linux since the late '90s. All photos are mine & edited using Darktable. I follow science, history, & photography toots. Here's a photo I made of Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, Nevada (2017).

I remember as a kid that my dad was a #publicradio donor for WFIU in Bloomington, #Indiana. He was a photographer, and I'll always fondly remember listening to AIl Things Considered in the afternoons after school and hearing that it was "brought to you by Talbot Studio on Kirkwood Avenue."

I hope that my giving now will inspire my kids to support public radio in their future.

Good evening, Fediverse!
There is a new item in my Ko-fi shop. An image is better than a thousand words, so... just take a look at this. (OK, if you want words, read the ALT text for the image!)

https://ko-fi.com/s/f702864ef2

The price is 55 euros, with 6 euros for worldwide shipping. No customs fee. Comes with a tracking number and, as always, a little gift.

Boosts are always welcome for small businesses like mine 🙂 Thanks for your support!
