Political refugee from Texas. Lover of art, long form journalism, 19th century literature and whatever will make me laugh.
I was in DC last week and this Homeless Jesus bench in front of Catholic diocese ticked me off since it’s trying to broadcast the church”s concern for the homeless while also making sure no homeless person can actually use the bench. It would be so much more righteous if it was a regular usable bench with a plaque above it saying Jesus which would apply to any and all who find rest on that bench. Didn’t help that every other sign on the diocese”s wall said no trespassing.

Cat poem from 9th Century Irish Monk:

I and Pangur Bán, my cat
‘Tis a like task we are at;
Hunting mice is his delight
Hunting words I sit all night.

Lovely illustration below by Sydney Smith.

Learning watercolor painting is fun but a challenge for me as I’m used to more planning and editing of my work. Got to learn to go with the flow. If you know of any online tutorials you like please let me know as I’ve got a lot to learn. #watercolorpractice
The pandemic and a move across the country put a serious kibosh on my artistic output but I’m feeling the itch again. As I don’t have the space to do the larger paintings I’m used to, I’m teaching myself watercolor painting. It’s hard! But fun and very helpful in not allowing me to endlessly revise my work. #watercolorpractice
