I enjoyed doing this interview for El Mundo, especially the last question (English translation [actually original, since the interview was in English] of that in this short thread:

Fascist newspaper ordered to pay compensation to several NGOs for defamation
Maurizio Belpietro, editor of #Panorama, has been convicted of defamation and ordered to pay €10,000 in provisional damages for calling NGOs “the new pirates” on the magazine’s cover.
This ruling, concerning our project alongside Open Arms, EMERGENCY, Sea-Watch, SOS Mediterranee, and Mediterranea, confirms what we have said all along: this was not journalism, but a deliberate attempt to delegitimise solidarity and dehumanise people on the move.
Now #Belpietro and his supporters claim they are being “silenced.” They are not. They are facing accountability, something they are clearly unaccustomed to.
This decision matters because attacks like these poison public discourse, justify violence and death at the borders, and ultimately endanger the lives of people forced to cross #FortressEurope in a dangerous way. We need to reclaim public space from hate and lies, and make room for the voices of those who are silenced by border violence. This is a good step in that direction.
So this is a good reminder : what ever you got on Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta & co is not your property. It is theirs.
And they can remove the whole of it in the flash of an eye for whatever reason appears to occur ⬇️

"This off-loading of the concerns of dataset construction to a different group of researchers and culture of disdain for data and those who get their hands dirty with it partly set the conditions, I believe, for work on language technology to come unmoored from scientific foundations." --Emily M. WTF of the week (yes, it's only Tuesday):
Microsoft warns that Windows 11's agentic AI could install malware on your PC: "Only enable this feature if you understand the security implications"

Microsoft is pushing ahead with its plan to add agentic capabilities to Windows 11 but has issued an important security warning for anyone who is interested in trying it out.
@GrapheneOS is being threatened by French authorities for refusing to add backdoors and they're dealing with coordinated attacks in French media right now. They're pulling out of France entirely, moving all their servers, and fighting off a wave of bullshit one-sided reporting that makes them look like they're helping criminals.
They need us to fight back. Support them however you can, whether that's a dollar, sharing their story, pushing back on the garbage news coverage when you see it, or just telling someone you know about what's happening. All of it matters because they're drowning in attacks from governments and media and bad actors who want them gone.
This is the only Android OS that actually makes me feel like privacy isn't just marketing. They fight for us now they need us to fight for them.
The EU is pushing Chat Control and creating an environment where governments feel empowered to threaten developers into compliance, and if we stay quiet we're letting it happen. Show up for them in whatever way you're able to.
