A few friends and I made an interesting strategy/puzzle/adventure prototype called SUB-SURFACE a few weekends ago, just put it up on itch: https://trashmoon.itch.io/subsurface

I finally got around to writing about this terrain renderer demo I started over a year ago on my blog. Read about my CSS and HTML crimes: https://trashmoon.com/blog/2024/terrain-renderer-with-react-and-dom/
Why and how I made a 3D terrain renderer with React + the DOM

I just finished polishing this DOM-based 3D terrain renderer and figured now would be a good time to write about it. Click or use arrow keys to move around, and click-and-drag to rotate:

Hey! I've announced my next game and I am asking for money already so I can finish making it. :)

What's up with headphones all having gesture controls? I have only ever used them accidentally. I am afraid to touch my headphones now. Am I just old or has this always been a bad idea.
There are some interesting ideas in https://arxiv.org/pdf/2312.06646

Generative AI is exciting and cool and I use it every day and I also 100% believe the statement on this page is true: https://www.aitrainingstatement.org/

How do we go from here, to a future where AI tools track attribution and pay royalties? Seems like an enormous uphill battle but not impossible. Would require imaginative reform in copyright law, and coming up with the technical framework for maintaining attribution in models, which no big AI company is incentivized to figure out.

As a programmer:

Bug existing - bad!
Users experiencing bugs and letting you know - great!

Now you can fix the bug. Adjusting my emotional response to these two things has helped me be better at the job. But I am burdened by the weight of untested code.

There needs to be a book like the artists way but it’s for artists to learn how to be normal
@maya "abstraction is a type of decadence" is a great software engineering truism tbh. no notes
