I forgot I had this and probably will again

@pluralistic oh man, this is bleak:

"Before Shiftkey offers a nurse a shift, it purchases that worker's credit history from a data-broker. Specifically, it pays to find out how much credit-card debt the nurse is carrying, and whether it is overdue.

The more desperate the nurse's financial straits are, the lower the wage on offer. Because the more desperate you are, the less you'll accept to come and do the gruntwork of caring for the sick, the elderly, and the dying."

So I think the obvious conclusion is the AI singularity will happen, but rather than computers it'll be cause we bred a really smart dog
@Lazarou
It came true though, it was just done with prosthetics (like how I'm psychically conveying this message to you)
@calmeilles This is based on a quote by Sidney Morgenbesser who is an absolute gold mine of these kinds of off the cuff remarks. One of my favorites:
"In the 1970s, a student of Maoist inclination asked Morgenbesser if he disagreed with Mao's saying that a proposition can be true or false at the same time. Morgenbesser replied, “I do and I don't.”"
@saluki
Lemmy is larger and more active but it and kbin are mutually compatible. Only kbin also federates with Mastodon and the rest of the fediverse though.
@TOrynski
Wait so /r/trees is now dedicated to actual trees?
@cyotcku
Lemmy and kbin are the only ones I've seen getting and traction, and it's just not that much
@djsaunders03
Facebook made bank through convincing its customers to pivot to video with fraudulent metrics, I imagine that's more in line with the goal here
@hexedpress
Not long I'd guess. The weird username clusterf*ck seems portentous
