In the "Lord's Prayer", the well known phrase "Give us this day our daily bread", has a surprising secret. In the original greek, the word translated as "daily" is a word, "Epiousion", that is unique. It is known no where else in ancient greek. Translating it has no consensus. Literally translated, "epi-" is a prefix meaning 'on top of', and -ousion' means "being". 'on top of being'. Some translate it as "super necessary", "supersubstantial", and even "the <thing> of tomorrow". The 'thing' of the coming age, ie immortality. Is this 'bread' just another form of the ambrosia of greek myth? I feel like there are so many hidden connections between things at times.
To an Engineer, good enough is perfect. To an artist, nothing is ever good enough. (With apologies to Alexander Calder for misquoting)
@sticksthefox (Theoretically these develop a solid coating when cooking. At least that's what the brand new ones in Costco say)
I was reading a recent reddit thread about generational differences and approach to work. Older generations (like me - I'm X) have a lot of identity tied up on their work and wow that fits me to a T. I defined myself by what I do and did, and find fulfillment and value in it. I /~LIKE~/ my work. I have plenty of other non work related identity, but they don't seem to be valued by anyone else (nor do they have to be) so they just don't show up as much. Ultimately I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong here - just that craft/work as your identity isn't necessarily a bad thing.
@chasetheredfox poll. So who knows how it was manipulated...
@arcturax I'm so sorry for your loss!
@atakiya thank you for the link!
@comedichyena I look forward to your review!
@danacorn I love the look!
@bersl2 That sounds great! Hah, much better than a $75 gift at that rate. My company's anniversary gifts are holdover from a distant unionized past, and doesn't reflect their advantages in other areas (like benefits, PTO quantity, and compensation)
