Today, for the first time in my life, I solved a problem by studying a packet dump.
@drdrang Neil deGrasse Tyson said it best (roughly quoting from memory here): If you ordered a 16 inch pizza, and it measured 16.05 inches, would you call it a super pizza?
@ccgus My mouth is watering but I’m not sure if it’s the bread or the Wolfe range.
It must have been really hard to learn calculus in the 19th century before there were cars to use in every example.
Remember that Apple video where Tim Cook stared down Morher Nature? I’m beginning to think it was faked.
@ccgus While you’re in KY I hope you get to do some climbing at Red River Gorge.
My internet provider (Spectrum) won’t provide connection support unless you log on to their website with a computer that is less than 5 years old and has an ethernet port. Apple stopped putting ethernet on laptops 11 years ago or longer. So, no support for Macbook users!
@drdrang TextEdit uses the Cocoa Text System, which is brilliant and handles things like Unicode perfectly, and is easy to program; but its layout options are very limited and it is apt to go haywire if you try to add things like widow/orphan protection. Pages (last time I looked) uses CoreText, a low level high power rendering engine that can do anything but programming wise is not for the faint of heart.
@th_in_gs If following/not following the law was a crime, then I saw crimes all around me, but in all my years I only recall one person prosecuted, and she was acquitted. OTOH, we met every morning to discuss how to stay off the front page, and when the legislature was in town, we were told to tell them what they wanted to hear, even if it meant lying. Laws and courts just never were a factor. So a great deal of law in that area was undeveloped.
@th_in_gs It was 30 years ago and state not federal govt but I’ll gladly tell what I remember. I don’t recall anyone worrying about what the courts would do. Mgmnt feared only 2 things: the legislature and the newspaper. What the law permitted or required never came up. If an agency or department came to the attention of the legislature, or if a reporter starting snooping around, it was a crisis. An admin’s job was not to follow the law, but to fly below the radar.
