I got this Apple internal software installer CD today. It has Mac OS 9 (9.0.4) as well as a bunch of site-licensed software. I really wanted it to actually use and install, but it’s pretty scratched up and the install failed. Pretty neat memorabilia though! Any tips on writing CDs bootable on older finicky drives (PowerBook 1400)? My burned Mac OS 8 CD wasn’t bootable so I had to find an original ones to use. I’ve heard writing at a slower speed helps?
I got a replacement CD-ROM drive bezel for one of the PowerBook 1400s that I’m working on, as it was missing when I got it. It fits and is supposedly the right version (the 12x one is apparently different) but only when I remove the metal shielding. With it on it doesn’t quite close right and the button feels wrong, etc. Without it the drive closes and the button clicks the way I would expect. Is there a trick to getting it to fit together properly?
