@echoechoR you might have to ask @everydaya11y but I felt good about it. #AHG22 Accessing Higher Ground was a great conference! I was nervous about attending in person but so glad to have made those hallway connections and learned so much!!
@echoechoR I was to present at a conference on disability and higher education. As a librarian who works in this space, I expected I might draw other librarians. However, I realized day 1 of the conference that there weren’t many there. So I needed to shift focus for the audience on how you can engage librarians to lead in accessibility work beyond what you might expect. Then, I also spent a lot of time reducing words on each slide—drastically!
@echoechoR I just presented and was futzing with slides till the bitter last second based on my audience. And words—always delete more than you think you should. For me, it’s like packing—I never need as much as I originally think I do. Too many words throw me off. I need an outline of concepts or I get lost in my slides and lose focus on the main message.
@everydaya11y I wish I’d been there as you are a great communicator!! So grateful to have met you!
Great experience at my first Accessing Higher Ground conference in Denver! What an amazing group or people and a pleasure to meet with @everydaya11y
Tip for newbies: filling in the text description for pics posted is, I have learned, really appreciated. There’s a sizeable community of the visually impaired over here and doing it means they’re not excluded. Also, it’s fun to do. If you’re on your phone, tap on the pic and start typing. (I didn’t realise I could go that) On the desktop app you’re given a prompt. It’s super easy.
