Nightshade was just released. Poison your art before you post it so that AI scrapers choke on it https://nightshade.cs.uchicago.edu/

(Further edit to stress that I did not make this product and I have nothing to do with it so please don't assume I did)

@drewphish I think you just found your next project: Tuba Meditations
@bourgwick @rowjimmy I've used WP at work, so I'm familiar with the interface. I guess I'd have to be my own IT guy though. I'm jealous of you just having the same WP website for...15 years now?
@chopaganda @rowjimmy The thing with all of these substack clones is that, if they get big, I fear they will inevitably face the same issues. Sick of moving around.
@rowjimmy Yeah, I'm more scared of content migration than subscriber migration. But I've got a few months, so I could do it gradually (and give everything a polish along the way).
After looking at all the Substack alternatives, I feel like the best move is just...build a WordPress site? They have a newsletter plugin that seems to do everything I need it to do. Tell me if I'm crazy.
Oh if you care, my favorites of the year, no particular order: Wednesday, MJ Lenderman live, The Tubs, Bug Club, jaimie branch (RIP), DJ Sabrina, the entire Bob Dylan discography.
As always, be sure to check out the Sleepers tab, which is my favorite for year-end music discovery. It gathers albums that appeared on only a few lists but ranked very highly when it did. Highlights obscure artists like *checks data* Paul...Simon?

My New Year's gift to you -- the 2023 Albums of the Year List spreadsheet. 44 lists, 809 albums. Better late than never.

The finale of 1998 marked the end of Phish's imperial phase. But they went out partying, as Prince would have wanted.
