How you charge the Apple Magic Mouse is the least of its problems — that’s a little bit overblown. That said, this is legitimately funny 🤣

Dictator is live on the iOS App Store!

Dictator is now available for those who want to try out talking instead of typing without needing to pay. Essentially the likes of wisprflow but for free!

I was getting close to building my own simple Markdown editor app yesterday, but then I found MarkEdit. It seems pretty good and so far it’s looking like it has saved me (or claude!) a job… https://github.com/MarkEdit-app/MarkEdit

After being frustrated one too many times with the iPhone keyboard, I quickly decided I needed to build Dictator for iOS. It's not quite ready for launch yet, but it is available on Test Flight for anyone brave enough to join the beta. Would love your feedback.

One of the funny things about using dictation more and more is that it is teaching me how poor my pronunciation can be, and is certainly helping to improve it. It's also surprising (to me at least) how often I speak total nonsense.
Listening to the @atpfm member special about Her and just got to the "rant" about voice input... and laughing as I'm currently working on Dictator (dictator.robgough.net). I do think we're on the precipice of voice being considered a first-class way of interacting with computers. I'm not suggesting we'll ever throw away our keyboards and trackpads... but voice will be more than just a novelty. e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/may/12/end-of-typing-workers-ditching-keyboards-voicepilling-ai-dictation
The end of typing? Why workers are suddenly ditching their keyboards

Employees are now whispering to AI voice dictation tools rather than clacking the keys. Will ‘voicepilling’ make everyone more productive – or just more annoying?

I've added some new features to Dictator this week. Probably the most meaningful is modes, which (amongst other things) lets you skip post-processing steps in apps where you don't need it. Tab to switch between modes while listening.

Lots of chatter this week about people switching from typing to talking. I'm one of them — and got fed up with the more advanced features being locked behind subscriptions. So I built my own.

Dictator: menu-bar dictation for macOS. Runs entirely on-device. Free.

Dictator — Talk to your Mac. Not the cloud.

A free, open-source menu-bar dictation app for macOS. Hold a hotkey, speak, release — text lands where your cursor is. All on-device.

Sometimes I think leadership of large companies should regularly be forced to interact with their core workflows like their users have to. Here I'm trying to create a new apple account – to give them money! – and it's giving literally no information on what is wrong here with my actual phone number
Some days you think you're getting lucky... but it's a trick. NO LUCK FOR YOU! #wordle
