"Woke" is the baking soda of epithets - it does everything! Don't want corps. to address climate change? Hate seeing women or people of color cast in roles previously played by white males? Want to stick it to trans people? Just use the one magic word to imply that the problem is out there in the world rather than with your rancid values or psychological damage.

If @stephenpa's journey to the Fediverse is typical—and I believe it is—adoption of the Fediverse will take time.

Because people need to be mindful of Big Social's pains.

Then they need to how the Fediverse alleviates that pain.

We have to be aware that Big Social is addictive, and habits are hard to break.

But there will always be an event where someone says "enough is enough".
