tell me elementaryOS 5 was not the pinnacle of UI design. it is so Nice. So gentle. it conveys depth in a really nice, non-distracting way, and i love it.

later versions toned down on the gradients, which is kinda sad to see, but they still very much retained their distinct skeuomorphic pixel-perfect iconography; i swear elementaryOS has some of the best icon design in any modern OS ever

i love it that there's an electronics retailer in Japan called Kś

i'm using this tool called cdrdao which records CDs in DAO (disk at once) mode. in short, this means that the whole disc is written at once, instead of individual tracks, which (from what i gather) was the default for most casual consumer-oriented software, as well as early recorder hardware.

but it seems to be having some problems writing CD-Text correctly… my first attempt ended up glitched to hell (screenshot)

i did manage to make it work eventually, so FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS AND ME: you need to use the binary text format and manually include a NUL terminator in your strings, like so:

CD_TEXT {
LANGUAGE 0 {
TITLE {100,114,105,102,116,101,114,44,32,119,97,110,100,101,114,0}
PERFORMER {114,105,107,105,32,109,111,101,0}
}
}

TITLE is drifter, wander. and PERFORMER is riki moe

(of course it's ASCII so i cannot use my name's Japanese spelling)

i MAY have just purchased a couple digipaks and MAY in fact be burning a couple CDs of my album right now

(right now can't promise they will be available for purchase, most of them are going out to family and friends! but feel free DM me if you'd be interested in getting one.)

you know what they say "you are what you eat"
not to mention a glaring bug in the audio engine: pausing playback stops the instrument entirely until you unpause. the notes may stop playing while playback is paused, but they'll also resume from the same state once you unpause! even if you seeked to an earlier part of the song. which usually results in an annoying cacophony of dissonant notes.
that'll need fixing…!

current project: MUSIC EDITOR

i'm trying my best at writing a piano roll with a couple built-in synths!

it sorta sucks right now and is hella ugly. but i've been making it more cosy by the day, and today i managed to write my first lil song in it!!
