I'm not a car guy, but I've been helping some friends organize a car show. Classic cars, hot rods, and super cars are cool & all, but I've never been able to understand the passion that people have for them.

Well, after being bombarded with emails and phone calls as the communications person for the car show, I think I get it now. Some of the people are all about the cars as the machines that they are. We all have our fascinations. I get that.

For the rest, the cars are stories. They're literally the vessels bearing the weight of their journey on roads and through the long horizon of days. The cars are not always expensive, but they’re priceless to their owners.

I asked one guy for his permission to use one of his photos of his car to help me promote the show. He responded by sending me an entire collection of photos going back to his wedding day. It was a car they wanted in their wedding, but they couldn't really afford it then. Decades later, they still have the car and still have each other.
