Recent breakthroughs in AI, and generative AI in particular, have demonstrated what those developing these technologies have long known – they have the

A good to place install command-line apps on Linux is $HOME/.local/bin

Sadly, Linux distributions don’t consistently have that folder on their system paths.

So I wrote up a quick gist with instructions on how to add it to your path on common Linux shells:

https://codeberg.org/aral/gists/src/local-bin-path.md

(If yours isn’t listed, merge request are welcome.) ;)

Kitten also now warns you if it detects its not on your path with a link to that gist during installation. (https://codeberg.org/kitten/app/issues/178)

Bike parking: build these. Just these. That’s *it*. These stands can accommodate any type of bike. And you can lock the frame to them.

Don’t build ones where only the wheel goes in. Don’t build anything where the mechanism can go wrong.

I know this is boring. But IT WORKS!

Edit: to those going “they can be cut and taped and bikes stolen” - I know. Do I care? No, not really. Tell me a type of rack that can’t be cut with an angle grinder!

"The problem is not that these [good] websites have gone anywhere. Instead, it is that they have been buried under an endless stream of #SEO shenanigans, #AI nonsense, privacy-intruding “services,” and no-nothing #algorithms.

We have to relearn how to surf [the web]."

So if only 2% of phone and PC users use AI daily, is it fair to say that the corporations invest billions and expect a payoff that won't ever happen? Like with blockchain and nfts?

Large-scale cell movements occur during gastrulation in vertebrate embryos. Using elegant methods, this study shows that the extension of the primitive streak during gastrulation can be uncoupled.

Coupling and uncoupling of midline morphogenesis and cell flow in amniote gastrulation

At the onset of gastrulation, primitive streak morphogenesis that requires mitosis along the embryo midline, persists even with a disrupted bilateral cell flow.

Very Few People Are Using 'Much Hyped' AI Products Like ChatGPT, Survey Finds - Slashdot

A survey of 12,000 people in six countries -- Argentina, Denmark, France, Japan, the UK, and the USA -- found that very few people are regularly using AI products like ChatGPT. Unsurprisingly, the group bucking the trend are young people ages 18 to 24. The BBC reports: Dr Richard Fletcher, the repo...

Why support open infrastructures?

⚖️Open Infrastructures add balance to a system often dominated by commercial actors

🌱Open Infrastructures can interoperate, building a network of open information

🤝Open Infrastructures are accountable to the community, not to shareholders

🪟Open Infrastructures are more transparent in terms of their finances and governance.
