Google Play Services is like an OS inside the OS: push notifications, location, authentication, app compatibility. Many apps (WhatsApp, banking, etc.) depend on it. Without it, notifications break or apps crash.

Stock Samsung apps are not private. I replaced them all with open source alternatives. The main source: F‑Droid (a massive repository of libre apps). I also added the IzzyOnDroid repo for more recent builds.

I couldn't keep using Chrome + Google Search. But in Cuba, Google is the fastest option by far. DuckDuckGo was frustratingly slow. Brave is blocked by the embargo (can't even download it without a VPN, which slows down connection even more).

A few months ago I watched a Pewdiepie video about the risks of trusting Google's ecosystem. Privacy violations, data harvesting under the "good Samaritan" premise. He decided to erase Google completely, using GrapheneOS as the cornerstone. I got obsessed.
