how long until a startup gets funded based on "we'll make a slick mobile mastodon client, market it super well, and sell ads"?
i think mastodon is pretty neat, and i'm glad it's growing. however, the new user experience is laughably complex. i keep having to try and clarify the same points over and over in conversation with people interested in getting started but who are flummoxed by the difference from centralized social networks. mastodon needs a newbie mode.
but what if i *want* to see the random shitposts and stupid-ass takes?
blue check? more like, check please.
every time i hear a lo-fi hip hop beat in a song i think to myself "that's a lo-fi hip hop beat" and wonder if i've chilled/relaxed to it before

Want to feel ancient?

2022 is as far away from 2002 (right in the middle of the Dot-Com Crash following the First Dot-Com Boom, nuke first use fears from the War on Terror, DARPA starting Big Data)

as 2002 was from 1982 (a sudden tech boom including AI and neural networks, right on the edge of the 1983 Videogame Crash, the Cold War almost on the verge of going extremely hot).

And here we all are again (an AI boom, an economic crash, a tank war in the former USSR with nuke first use threats)

things videogames have given me unrealistic expectations about:
- how much gold i can collect just by doing menial chores
- how often i'd find safe, edible food on the ground
- how forthcoming about random things bystanders are with minimal interaction
