Germany is a good place to be Jewish. Unless, like me, you’re a Jew who criticises Israel

The pro-Israel political consensus has shut out any dissenting voices – as I found in a TV debate with the vice-chancellor, says author Deborah Feldman

I appreciate @Toastie pointing this out a while back, because I see it everywhere now. Lummi people don't "consider" a whale to be their relative. Everyone agrees, whether genetically or culturally, that whales and humans are relatives. It's introducing a completely unnecessary mystical separation to word it this way, and just as easy to say "who celebrate their relationship with Lolita" or something like that.

“Catalonia has declared a state of emergency as it faces its worst drought on record.
From Thursday residents will be banned from washing their cars and filling up empty swimming pools under a measure brought in to tackle the crisis.
More than six million Catalans will be affected across 200 towns and cities, including … Barcelona.”

Aside from this being a violation of federal law, I’m deeply saddened that WestJet, too, now values cash over humanity. #disability #disabilityrights #ada #cdnpoli

as a driver, the fewer rides you accept through uber's platform, the more you get paid for each.

if you start accepting more rides, they start paying you less for each ride.

therefore, people who drive part time look at their income and do some math, "oh if i do this full time, i can make $X per month." then they switch to full time driving, and income is actually lower than projected. but, they already quit other job, now they're stuck.

“We will not be saved by a “green” economy of electric cars or geo-engineered skies. Slowing down—to a carbon footprint on the level of Europe and the U.S. in the nineteen-seventies—would mean less work and less clutter, he writes. Our kids may not make it, otherwise.” #degrowth #economics #gdp #climate #climatechange #sustainability
