This needs to be said again: mastodon.social is not Mastodon, and neither is Mastodon synonymous with the Fediverse.
Whatever your specific user experience is not indicative of everyone else's.

A warning in advance:
After such a big wave of people moving to mastodon, which is big fun, one less enjoyable thing will happen. A lot of accounts will arrive who will start trolling, spamming and not abiding to the terms / code of conduct (which can differ per server!)
The only ones who can do something against that structurally, are the server moderators. And that takes time and effort.
What you can do: report messages and think about moderation rules (governance) together with your admin!
Ik realiseer me ineens dat er hier op Mastodon maar één manier is om leuke toots een breder publiek te geven: boosten. In tegenstelling tot Twitter is er geen algoritme dat berichten naar voren schuift omdat ze veel likes krijgen, of reacties eronder, of omdat het een beroemd persoon met heel veel volgers is.
Kortom: we moeten het helemaal zelf doen. Dus ram op die boostknop bij alles wat je leuk/mooi/grappig/interessant vindt! 💪

The biggest servers are gathering lots of people. I hope they're entry points, not destinations, and people use them to build their mental models of the fediverse and shift their account (you can port your followers!) to strengthen smaller communities.
