Thorough look at ActivityPub, the protocol at the heart of Mastodon and other fediverse applications, from the @verge https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/20/23689570/activitypub-protocol-standard-social-network
(Share buttons on the Verge site don't include fediverse...)
Wow, my initial impression is excellent! Start at: phanpy.social
Includes everything I want, excludes lots of junk that I don’t. Easy on the eyes. I’m sure there will be flies in the ointment eventually, but seriously considering adopting this as my everyday web client.
Calling it a gotcha that I "critique Biden policies after voting for him" is what's wrong with US politics today.
Voting for him doesn't mean I can't critique him—it's literally the best reason to be critical. It's called holding electeds accountable. It's how democracy works. And it’s how political parties work when they aren’t cults.
Okay so the “MACs aren’t popular enough for malware” trope? Really?
Ransomware is about money. What’s going to get you more money, locking up desktops or servers?
Right, servers.
What don’t you see Macs typically used as on a large scale these days?
Right, servers.
Y’all know better, do better.
Made an account on https://calckey.social/ because I wanted to check out something that's not Mastodon-based as well.
I'll still be posting here (I consider this my main account), and consider what I'll do if I want to move elsewhere.
Been doing a bit of a deep dive (or at least a few steps away from the edge of the shallow pool) into the #Fediverse today. This was my first account on Mastodon, still not sure where I'll actually end up.
May or may not self-host something in the future, if I can be bothered.
But it's been interesting to explore. PixelFed looks interesting for posting photos. https://pixelfed.org/
