Professional web slinger since the Web 1.0 days.
Been telling PHP what to do and how to do it for the grand majority of it.
Tried a bunch others, love exploring new tech, but PHP is where I’m happiest on the web.

On Friday afternoon, I launched a new service built off the back of ColdPhusion, my custom framework.

We hot swapped it in place of the older .Net Core service expecting to have to roll it back once we collected some logs and usage statistics.

Turns out, didn’t need to.

5 days later, 0 pod restarts, 0 emails about problems, no fatal, error, or even warning logs in grafana, and delivers faster results too.

Couldn’t be happier

In my timeline is still a lot of people ON mastodon trying to convince everyone ON mastodon what mastodon is and about decentralization, boosting each other a thousand times over

Imagine if on Twitter it was 80% people just talking about what Twitter is and championing centralization, and everyone retweeting that a million times over each

I’ve not been developing anything over my Christmas staycation like I thought I bc would, because we adopted a new puppy a few weeks ago and taking care of her is taking every waking second of my days

I have a dog πŸ•

Her name is Dakota.

She’s a Retriever + Shepherd mix

And she’s the goodest girl ever ❀️

I’ve also written a couple small twitter clones as well, but nothing fully fleshed out.

One you get that infinite-timeline thing figured out, things are going well

I think a decent little smell test to make sure the absolute fundamentals are working top to bottom is a blog

But I think I kinda like the idea of a twitter clone, I’ve written so many blogs and no one blogs anymore lol

yay fixing an old docker, because package dependency hell has finally caught up with it.

See, Angular wants an older Node to compile, but NPM wants a newer Node. But the only version in the now ancient Ubuntu in the base is too for anything.

Fun.

#Introduction

My name is Kyle πŸ‘‹. I’m a professional web developer. I’ve worked in the freelance, independent, small business, and enterprise spaces. My last two employers were EA and currently Fortinet where I lead the documentation services team.

My current stack is steeped in traditional but a heaping helping of new. Symfony is my go-to framework of choice for most things.

I have a keen interest in database.

I also build modern frameworks just for fun too, and give the occasional talk.
