One of the biggest fallacies about ChatGPT is "It works if you prompt it correctly".
As someone with a bit of a background in UX Design & HCI I do not accept arguments of the form "you're using it wrong".
This applies to LLMs too!
Yes, you CAN use them in a way where you exercise critical thinking, but they have NOT been designed for this use case. They have been designed to provide shortcuts that let people avoid the discomfort of critical thinking, and grab data in doing so.

URGENCE DOUDOU PERDU.

On a perdu le doudou de notre petite juste devant chez nous. Deux heures plus tard, il avait disparu. On pense que quelqu'un l'a pris (on croise les doigts pour que ça soit pour le protéger mais on en doute).

On va lancer un avis de recherche.

ÉDIT : Retrouvé !! Ma grande fille a spammé les murs du quartier avec des dessins du dino, y avait une affiche tous les 15 mètres. Ça a payé, le dino était devant la porte de l'immeuble ce soir! On va quand même acheté un double 😅

So even if I did trust the measurement and assessment approach, I'm not convinced the task they are observing has much real-world relevance, nor do I think it's a good way to represent critical thinking.

Lack of time, with a bomb-style countdown and everything ("five minutes, and counting!"), and being removed from the reading and writing tools you are accustomed to, on its own, compromises critical thinking

I don't even know if I can consider my job in higher education to be meaningful. In the end, the role of my industry is to gatekeep access to the job market. Learning is almost entirely incidental, especially in the age of AI.
