Close to Palestinian border in #Sinai a few days ago I checked a house reef I've been visiting for years.
Since the last visit 12 months ago, the health of the reef is visibly worse. Residents cite causes related to illegal fishing and rising sea temperature. Recent studies in 2021 show some #RedSea corals have a unique resistance to rising temperature. But this seems to be a panacea as the other factors overwhelm the reef. Rip to a critical species in the ecosystem.
