I'm a sci-fi writer whose day job is writing fantasy novels. I like to read (duh) and I particularly like Gothic fiction and mind-bendy sci-fi, but anything that's good. I also like to knit and force old hardware back from the brink of obsolescence. Watching NASCAR is my guilty pleasure.
@sunsetmoth Find a trusted reader to tell you whether it's any good.
@sunsetmoth I write 3k a day (thereabouts) every weekday (except holidays). That's an easy pace for me. I've read about pulp authors in the 50's who regularly hammered out 8k a day on manual typewriters. The best speed is the one you can comfortably maintain (but we can all try and get just a *wee* bit faster, right?).
@Blort I'm happy to share my data, my experiences, and my methods, but I'm still not selling anything.
@Blort It was an Amazon Advertising campaign that made this difference. I had tried it in the past and could never get it to work. The difference this time was that instead of trying to avoid competitive keywords and keep my bids low like I had been advised to by others, I went after the most competitive keywords in my genre and bid what I estimated I could afford with a 10% conversion and still break even. I made a good bit of money as a result. I'll test this theory in May.

It's difficult to explain how *nice* mastodon is compared to the other site. I don't know how much of that is the lack of algorithm and how much is just people wanting to talk about something other than rage obsessions, but... It's nice.

Please be patient while I remember how to communicate my interests fluently.

About 6 weeks ago I ordered a #pineTime watch because book sales were abysmal, and I was convinced I'd have to give up my business and dream job and go back into nursing where a watch is essential. Between going to interviews, I launched one last desperate promotion, and it exploded.

Ironically, the watch arrived today, the same day I broke a monthly sales record. I'm no longer looking for a nursing job, but I'll wear this watch as a reminder to not give up, give it time; everything changes.

@troydarling Howdy! Welcome along. I love shop talk.
@thunderbird I have no favorite add-ons now that Lightning has been integrated along with seamless CalDAV and CardDAV support.
@ryanleesipes The most painful thing bout handling email, for myself, at least, is dealing with emails that are a waste of time and energy for me, go straight to the trash bin, but yet I can't unsubscribe or block the sender because on occasion, I do get something of value or something that is otherwise needed.
@Davidwbeothram Wow. That is sad. I can completely understand that.
