Boardgamer in Brooklyn. I also build apps, tend to the many and varied needs of to two cats, poke at things to figure out how they go (not the cats, I appreciate some mystique).

Inspired by @marinou here is our 2022 BGStats play count heat map. Our goal was to play at least one game a day. Every. Day. A year has a lot of days in it. 😛 We’re more aware of this now. We made it and played some really incredible games.

Tracking data like this is super pleasing. Our h-index for the year was 10. All time it’s just 18, but we tend to favor playing more new games.

@carmel I don’t think there would much advantage beyond nerding out on what seemed like pretty detailed thematic elements. Either that or disadvantaged by cringing at what only seems authentic to my briefly-played-violin-in-junior-high eyes.
We snuck in a play of Lacrimosa this afternoon. I’d heard good things, but was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Smooth mechanics, fun choices in selecting two cards to play in different ways each turn. Pretty quick and also pretty. Sweet theme that seems thought through lovingly.
@HenriWhitehead that sweet face!!
We climbed this mountain! It took much of the day to learn and play Vital Lacerda’s latest big box Weather Machine for the first time. It’s beautiful (of course), insanely interconnected, torqued to a nearly uncomfortable tightness, and satisfyingly humbling. The long weekend in the US next week should see it weighing down our table again at least once.
@sil @CritRoleStats the searchable transcripts alone are invaluable. Making them more powerful seems like a win.
@tabletopgamesblog tough question as there are so many! Squishy berries in Everdell definitely give it a bump. My eyes darted up to the Lacerda corner of the Kallax and landed on Lisboa which I think is a joy to look at. My wife chimed in with Feudum from 7/8ths asleep which is impressive and a solid choice, too.
@ITOmarHernandez boardgame gore content warning! j/k 😛 glad they’re addressing it quickly. Ours is 2 days away and seeing that … I felt that deeply.
@watchitplayed this has been lurking in shrink on a shelf far too long. Reading what you said and seeing your reactions is motivating! I remember swooning over the art.
@ofdiceandmen Palaces of Carrara has a special place in my heart! It’s the first game we wanted to play so much that we bought it in a foreign language. It was early in our burgeoning romance with boardgaming and was our introduction to the silky smooth games of Kramer and Kiesling. So glad you found a copy!
