New York City's mayoral primaries were conducted with ranked-choice voting for the first time. The results were dramatic and the rest of the country has taken note.

For the Democratic party, former New York governor from 2011 to 2021 Andrew Cuomo conceded to Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist in the vein of Bernie Sanders.

For the Republican party, Curtis Sliwa claimed victory over... no one, since he ran unopposed, but still, he was inspired to continue his M. Bison cosplay shtick.

Ballot submitted.

If you're an eligible voter in a state that has an election this year, it'd be great if you could PLEASE FUCKING VOTE.

Make sure you're still registered. Do it today. And then once you're sure, make sure you vote ASAP.

Every year I try to simplify my pepper starting process.

This year I decided to put them in milk cartons filled with hydroponic solution after they got large enough not to fall through the spout.

It works. No special equipment or modifications needed.

My daughter, my wife and I took a trip to Gwangju last autumn.

One stop was of course the May 18th National Cemetery, a memorial for those killed in the deadly attacks on citizens in 1980 ordered by then-president Chun Doo-Hwan to suppress dissent. This was the previous time South Korea was under martial law.

I'm watching closely after today's shocking executive order of emergency martial law by President Yoon and subsequent vetoing by parliament.

This is my current desktop wallpaper. My two-year-old has seen it a few times and demands to watch the full video.

The only problem? It's not from a movie or TV series. Huge kudos to anyone who can guess where it's from.

Submitted my ballot about a week ago, but only learned of this image now. Not too late to announce that I enjoy participating in the democratic process. h/t @laprice

P.S. The coloring of the map seems pretty consistent with what I expect the presidential vote results to look like

Fun fact: Herbert Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, spent time in China and spoke Chinese. This photo, from the Hoover Institution, shows him with his Chinese tutor.

Based on his face, this particular lesson was... probably pretty rough.

In the US, it's named after Türkiye.
In Türkiye, it's named after India.
In India, it's named after Peru.
In Peru, they didn't play along.
It's impossible for me as an Asian-American not to root for the Philippines during this World Cup. 18 of 23 are from the US, and more Filipinas than Americans hail from the Bay Area.

Made some more chili oil with the crop of Big Yellow Mama and Cheongyang peppers that my balcony garden has given me. The last batch disappeared after two weeks.

Here's the before and after:
