Recent US State Department budget cuts have unfortunately also impacted non-profits working on internet freedom.

The Proton Foundation has stepped in to support organizations such as Free Press Unlimited, Freedom House, and Tor, which are impacted, but these organizations need more support.

You can find out more about what they do and the $1 million that Proton is donating towards organizations defending democracy during this critical time here:

This is incorrect; Proton Wallet is operated by Proton Financial AG, which is based in Zug, Switzerland. It is not under US jurisdiction.

However, Proton Wallet does not ban customers from the US, so we are required to prevent US users from transacting with US-sanctioned countries.

@jectoons @hipsterelectron Andy Yen is not posting his personal opinions from official accounts. For example, the person who wrote the original post above and this response is not Andy Yen.

There was a miscommunication error earlier which led to the now retracted statement, but we've changed our processes to make sure it never happens again.

@chema I understand how you feel, but I can reassure you that no individual has control over Proton, including the CEO.

As stated in the original post, Proton is not controlled by any individual, but by the nonprofit Proton Foundation, so none of this reflects on Proton itself. We have been, and always will be, neutral.

Lastly, I've relayed your feedback & concerns to the team.

This is not an excuse but an explanation, and we should do better.

@Venefilyn Andy Yen, our CEO, did make a public statement addressing this situation:
