My post on Bluesky:

"I welcome new folks to Blue Sky, but I fear this could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire. This is still a privately owned network funded by a VC that must turn a profit. That will come from your data. Mastodon is clearly a safer choice, but it does take a small extra bit of effort."

How Decentralized Is Bluesky Really? https://dustycloud.org/blog/how-decentralized-is-bluesky/

A technical deep-dive, since people have been asking me for my thoughts. I'll expand a bit on some of the key points here in a thread. 🧵

What are the reasons behind the pervasive tendency among ostensibly anti-MAGA elites to accommodate authoritarian power and preemptively signal compliance with Trumpism?

I did a four-page short comic for Le Lombard (Belgian publisher), it was a contribution to a big book project in French, featuring 24 other comic artists; an "advent calendar" book for Christmas. And yes, you have to cut the page every day in December to reveal a new story. I negotiated to have mine published on CC-By and made it using only FLOSS    .

Following all those starter packs on Bluesky is like binging on potato chips. You wind up with a feed full of nonsense and repetition. On Mastodon, you follow a few people with interesting things to stay, your feed stays interesting. I don't mind being small. I'd rather think. But Mastodon did't have a lot of sticking power for me. Not enough like-minded I guess, and more far left than BlueSky, although more interesting in small doses.
I don't know why this must be repeated, but if you are ill, stay home and protect others. A friend of mine just went to a small party, where the host was clearly not feeling well. The host didn't say a thing until someone asked, and then admitted they'd been sick for days. Now my friend has a sore throat and is not feeling well. JFC, people, just care a little more about those you love.
*People still talk this way, as opposed to, "We'll have a giant Internet-scraping platform that uses more nuclear power than a city"

No, ChatGPT won't help in the classroom, won't save teachers time, and doesn't represent a set of skills students need to learn.
