You can say Substack should host Nazis, but don't pretend there's some "free speech" principle to it. Substack has a strict ban on pornography. Welcoming Nazis while banning sex workers isn't a principled stand, it's a choice, an expression that you like the former and dislike the latter.
A quick visit during my social media hiatus to say HELLO FRIENDS, and yes, I started a Substack while I was away. It will be a place dedicated to my love of learning (and teaching) and will include a weekly newsletter, courses, and community. Give my first post a read if you get a minute, and if you'd be so kind as to share, I'd so appreciate it. Hope you are well.

#LegalEthics Tidbit: How many online CLE’s can I attend at the same time?

Just one. A Maine lawyer on administrative suspension needed two CLE classes to reinstate his license. He logged on to two live CLE’s at the same time using his computer and iPad, and then told the ME authorities he had completed the required classes. Suspended one year.

#LegalEthics Tidbit: If your client wants to leave you money in the will you are drafting, tell them to get another lawyer

A MA lawyer prepared a will for a friend that identified the lawyer’s son as a successor beneficiary in case the client’s family predeceased him. The lawyer violated Rule 1.8(c) by preparing a trust instrument that potentially provided a substantial gift to his own family. Public Reprimand.

Glad to see this in print! “ChatGPT Assignments to Use in Your Classroom Today” from a team at the UCF Faculty Center led by Kevin Yee… I had the chance to read a preprint and it’s full of interesting ideas for learning about and using generative AI in teaching.

Callan is been found and is back with her family. I have no other details. Thanks everyone.

An update to yesterday's post. A flyer has been created, with the contact number for the Babson Police. If anyone has seen Callan, please contact them. #boston #newengland #missingperson @universalhub

I’m prepping #familylaw for spring. What are some family law myths - things people think are true but are not in fact the law? I’m thinking common law marriage; minority rule, so living together even for 20 years does not create a marriage in most states. Others?

POLITICAL VIEWS

We’re not supposed to reject people socially, because of political views, is what I understand from our nation’s great newspapers and magazines and newsfortainment television programs.

It’s a gnostic idea of politics that these professional mourners of crumbling civility seem to be popularizing; the idea that what you believe politically is something entirely separate from the self, and the "real" world of backyard barbecues and college mixers.

The transcript is up for my podcast conversation with @KellyH and @viji! How can we change the narrative around diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher ed so that it reflects what's actually happening in classrooms? Talking about Inclusive Teaching with Kelly Hogan and Viji Sathy - Intentional Teaching

In March 2023, educators Kelly A. Hogan and Viji Sathy wrote a piece for the Chronicle titled “How Can ‘Inclusion’ Be a Bad Word?” At the time, they both worked at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and they had been asked by North C...
