Working-class experience of library work and LIS is rarely explored in the literature, so our work was meant in part as a contribution to improve this situation.

Social class in LIS tends to be popular when actually explored, and we hope this session will prove so. ๐Ÿงก

I feel it's highly challenging to demonstrate all of that in a written application, though hiring managers need to know it. One thing we can do when writing JDs is ensure the language we use reflects the knowledge, qualities and skills that are "equivalent" to this advanced degree.

Also, in developing the new Level 7 Library apprenticeship our Trailblazer group used the FHEQ and the librarianship Subject Benchmark Statement (link โคต๏ธ), and reflected these in our language.

What knowledge and skills are "equivalent" to a LIS vocational masters qualification? I lean on the QAA FHEQ for this, which sums it up in just eight bullet points (p.28 in link, image below). This is what to expect from those holding that degree.

One thing I struggle with, and so want to be transparent about is degrees: either a first degree for graduate-level roles, or an advanced degree for 'professional' posts. I always say "or equivalent experience" which is a compromise and not ideal.
