Omg I'm becoming addicted to ChatGPT for research. It simply arrives at the information I need, with sources and arguments, in a fraction of the time it would take me on my own.
It all started when I was struggling to find details about the bottle in the photo. It reads "Newton's Endorsing Ink for Rubber Stamps. Prepared by Harold Thomas Newton, Adelaide." I was in the car at the time, but tried my usual shallow online search techniques, and nothing came up. Google, Trove, SLV, all gave me nothing, and I figured it would need to wait until I got back to my office.
But, then I thought, why not give the chat bot a chance and you can see part of the results in the first picture. I accidentally hit return before finishing the question, but it still nailed the answer. Since then, I've been conversing with ChatGPT for almost everything I'm researching. While it's speeding up the initial basic research, I find I'm still spending as much time researching, but with more detail, and less dead ends.
We've had a few arguments, where it feels like it has withheld answers from me, and where I've had to ask it to look deeper, but it seems to have got over that.
More surprising, I'm finding myself tapping on ChatGPT's shoulder instead of Google for almost all of my quick every day searches, now, too.
