It’s ubiquitous in East Asia for ancients to own/run little food shops. I think it’s a glorious thing. It would be nice to see it here. Does this happen elsewhere?

Just finished this. I’m late to the party, as usual . Still, it’s worth saying that this is an epic story. It is a story of how an attitude of narrow geographic origin toward natural resources could be so profoundly consequential. Cruelly, heedlessly consequential. The book is a tome, yet it’s a good read. The characters are amazing. If you want to know what we’re up against, the foundational core of it, you’ll find it in this novel.
