#Elasticsearch and other search-inclined people:

Are there any negative repercussions of removing "OR" from reserved words that gets turned to "or" from a cleaned Elasticsearch reserved words list? And if so, what are they?

Happy New… year?

I had a doozy of a 2023. I left a toxic job for one that paid immensely more but tested my ability to self motivate or survive. After that, I was offered my dream job of working for NASA and as much as I wanted that to be my final spot, I wasn’t able to love what I was doing there and got the nicest firing I’ve ever had from a role.

I am ringing in NYE with my partner in my new home of New York and loving all the possibility of what’s ahead, jobs, life, and people.

We know too much these days. People in the good old days knew 3 facts, at most, all goat-related

Just a reminder:

If you give 30% on a day you only have 30% to give, then you've given 100%

Why New York City Keeps Flooding

When the city’s drainage network is overwhelmed, “it backs up,” experts said.

The New York Times
I take it as a point of pride that the Zoom walkthrough of the house with a moving company to estimate shipping our stuff from Seattle to NYC says "You don't have too much, but you have a LOT of books."

It’s like this: my sib Tidy just called and told me that a significant portion of the population of Austin is up in arms because Dell Children’s Hospital just shut down its entire adolescent medicine dept over fallout from this anti-gender-affirming care crap.

The only MD in the city doing trans youth medicine also happens to be, by all accounts, the best MD in the city for cis girls with other complex stuff. Both of my cis nieces with weird issues are among her patients. This poor doc just said “fuck it” and quit, she couldn’t take the relentless bashing. My nieces and countless other Austin girls are now without the medical care they need and deserve. And for what? The governor’s MAGA street cred?

My point is this: even if your kids aren’t trans, this anti-trans bullshit can and will still fuck them up.

Protecting trans kids protects ALL kids.

Here I am, 7 years ago this week, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and excited to be interviewed for KING FM’s Musical Chairs show with Michael Brooks. I think it was my first time being on the radio, and Mike made it easy...

My goals:

1. Release code that doesn't break the site, follows best practices, and is efficient and understandable by future devs

2. Reviewers and reviewees have a positive learning & feedback experience

3. By reviewing PRs, the team builds redundancy in their familiarity with the code base

All advice is welcome!

When a dev team is made up of several competent just-graduated-boot-camp contributors who are also new to your code base, what is the best way to go about doing code reviews? There isn't currently a senior dev to lead the way, so this will be a "learn together" process. (1/2)
