One thing about being grounded from long walks is that I have to think/do other things to keep myself busy and take work breaks. I took a book-binding class at our city art center over the weekend. Made a little Turkish map book for a friend who's spending the summer as a digital nomad/new empty nester in Europe this summer to celebrate her 50th birthday and get a break from this country. These books are cool - originally designed as a way to carry large maps in a small book, this miniature one can be used as a travel journal - ephemera like ticket stubs and dried flowers can be placed in the pages, and pages can be written/drawn on as well.
Thanks for the moral support. Not being outdoors and moving is hard on my mental health. Doing pilates or yoga indoors is OK, but not the same. I've tried stretching before and after walks but I guess it was just still too much walking for my high arches to recover. I have an appointment to get fitted for inserts next month - so hopefully the walking break + inserts get me back up and outside soon (July 4th will be the end of my 2-month walking ban - finally, a meaning to Independence Day :)). I'm glad to hear you were able to recover and keep hiking.
The podiatrist said I have to stop taking my daily walks for 2 month so the plantar fasciitis can heal.

This is hard.

Walking has become a habit - a muscle memory - like breathing or blinking - the bi-lateral stimulation and outdoor movement has carried me through the stress and emotional processing after ending a 23-year relationship a few years ago. So no more lake pics for a while. I’m only on day 2 of not taking 2-3 mile walks each day. Feels like a kind of quarantine since I work from home. I’m finding substitute activities.
