How many politicians get a church named after them?! I was travelling along Sugarbag Road¹ Caloundra yesterday and thought a Uniting Church was named after Saint Franklin. What?! A Uniting Church² named after a saint?! Nope. It’s the Sir Franklin Nicklin Uniting Church. I had assumed Nicklin was a politician. Who else would the busy major road that is Nicklin Way be named after? But I didn’t know anything else. Wikipedia taught me that he was the Premier of Queensland (before I was born) and his moniker was Honest Frank, even according to the Opposition.
1. Okay. It’s possible that it was before Queen St becomes Sugarbag Road but I’m not missing out on the chance to mention Sugarbag Road.
2. The Uniting Church was formed when the Australian Methodists, Presbyterians and Congregationalists united.
