With the snowstorm today, our birdfeeders were pretty busy. There were at least 15 species, including 2 red-winged blackbirds, the first I've seen this season, and 3 bluebirds, which tend to show up just when it snows.

Wow: NWS gets "bombogenesis" and "40/70 Benchmark" in a single sentence, a sentence that ends in an exclamation point, so we know we're in for it, even if we don't know what "forcing for ascent" is (sure, we could look it up, but we are shook):

"Very strong forcing for ascent results in bomogenesis [sic], with multiple model guidance indicating the cyclone will intensify to sub 970mb as it crosses near the 40N/70W benchmark Monday!"

Get those fixins!

A bobcat paused in front of our trail camera. Hunting rabbits?

@Geojoek - Yes, that's true. The clouds cleared enough for us to see it in the east. Sorry your sky was obscured 😞

Coyote pups romping in the woods! (They could be foxes, but based on the yipping sounds when I first noticed them, I think they're coyotes.)
Last Sunday, I led a morning bird walk at Basin Pond in Evans Notch, New Hampshire. After a day of rain, the clouds started to lift just as we got there, briefly revealing a glassy surface on the pond before the breeze picked up.

Floral highlights from last weekend in New Hampshire: Rhodora, Pink Lady's Slipper, and Painted Trillium at White Lake State Park, and a large patch of Fringed Polygala near Evans Notch.

I like the near perfect radial symmetry and graceful curves of this unfolding ostrich fern in Brattleboro, VT, near the Creamery Covered Bridge.
