Glad to be on a site not embroiled in current Twitter stuff. Mostly focus on psychiatry, medicine with a healthy side dose of Bob Dylan, meditation, Buddhism and Judaism - Glad to see so many familiar people here,
this rings very true, and speaks to a lot of what we will lose (and already have lost). Twitter as a professional tool is already gone https://www.niemanlab.org/2022/11/losing-twitter-hurts-journalism/
11 (and counting) things journalism loses if Elon Musk destroys Twitter

Goodbye to screenshotted best bits, DMs, "that tweet should be a story"...

Do antidepressants actually work and should they be prescribed at all?
Here is a reasonably unbiased blog post by @awaisaftab which examines all the evidence.

You may still call it biased, bcoz he is a psychiatrist, but that's something you just will have to live with.

Roll call: Present.

The collapse of Twitter for (basically) self-inflicted reasons makes a strong case for building online infrastructure structured as a non-profit or public utility.

People rely on these platforms for public information, use them for democratic debate and many invest their livelihoods in them.

These platforms are too important to public safety, peoples’ livelihoods and democracy to leave in the hands of eccentric billionaires or the whims of stock markets.

@falx @paulsummergrad for the most part that's correct. But the network is only "connected" insofar as people have followed other people on other servers. Servers don't automatically see each other until that happens for the first time.

And server admins can decide to reverse this process. For example, if a server full of nazis shows up, the admin can block them from federating.

This community is beginning to feel like a place I can engage. It feels far less frenetic than Twitter and with more engaged moderation. Interested in learning what resources it needs and how I can contribute
I'm happy to say that I've now onboarded another iOS developer for our app, and we are set on making another update to the app as soon as possible. I've also onboarded the first batch of new moderators for this server.
If you want something to look forward to, Mastodon 4.0 will be released on Monday so soon enough you'll be able to translate posts and follow hashtags!
Lads this site depends on retoots not likes. So don't be stingy on the sharing of other people's posts - especially new folks just arrived & looking for new pals 😊 We all need to get into a sharing headspace 🥰
