TL;DR: If online-only DRM servers shut down, publishers would be required to keep your game working regardless.

Only targets video games because that is where this practice is by far the most prevalent today, but it would set a precedent that we might soon need for things like phones, cars, and all the other things that are increasingly getting CPUs shoved inside them.

I strongly suspect I am one of those “woke communists” you worry about. But you probably couldn’t actually explain what either of those words actually mean, could you?

I’m a card-carrying atheist, I think a woman’s right to choose is very important, I think that “well regulated militia” means that guns should be carefully licensed and not just randomly given to any moron with a pulse, and I couldn’t care less if you decided to dress up in the “wrong” clothes or decided you’d rather live your life without feeling tied to whatever plumbing you were born with.

And dammit, if that all makes me “woke”, then I think anybody who uses that word as a pejorative is a f*cking disgrace to the human race. So please just unfollow me right now.

if you care about software freedom, then you must care about the well-being of the software maintainers who have dedicated themselves to the effort.

many of the maintainers solving the hardest problems in FOSS, from graphics, to the new cloud-native paradigm, are either trans, or have friends/family who are trans.

as previously stated, to care about software freedom brings the obligation to care about the well-being of these maintainers.

attacks on the trans community are *also* an attack on a subset of the FOSS community's maintainers.

therefore, to support attacks on the trans community, by spreading alt-right propaganda, by voting Republican, is directly equivalent to supporting attacks on FOSS maintainers.

if you support software freedom, and you support the well-being of the maintainers, the people bringing *you* that software freedom, then you *must* reject these attacks on the trans community.
