@pborenstein then you ain’t eatin’ em in Houston.

Beatrix Potter is best remembered for her charming tales of Peter Rabbit, but did you know she also studied #science?

Potter collected & examined beetles, butterflies, plants, bird eggs, shells, rocks, fossils & especially fungi. She conducted experiments & wrote a scientific paper with her own illustrations, presented at the Linnean Society of London. However, as a woman in the Victorian era, she couldn’t even attend the meeting. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/26/arts/design/beatrix-potter-peter-rabbit-science.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare #HistoryRemix #history #art #books

Beatrix Potter Is More Than the Creator of Peter Rabbit

An exhibition in Nashville of Beatrix Potter’s works explores her love of the world of science and the challenges facing women of the Victorian era.

@likewise @bookstodon You are not the only one with that book!
@GottaLaff to be fair, it was Bracewell & G for about a nanosecond. And criminals of every stripe need good representation in our system of government. I would not like to be judged by each person I dated. Every lawyer has had clients that make the lawyer “hold their nose.”
@Danaintq yup, that about covers it
@slevelt @histodons I really want this book. Did you know that Amazon prices it at $150?!
@kristineehunt Agree. The accessibility issue works both ways of course. When I began teaching secondary students in the 80s and college in the 90s, I could grade anything, anywhere. Decades later, MY requirements for detailed, fair and efficient grading have changed with my eyes.
@Mjo321 right?!
Manhattan = joy. And I am sooooooo full from dinner at Sensa Gluten. Happy, happy, everyone.
@coffeepine I hereby grant you 3 more decades of coffee freedom - the bean fairy
