FSU moves could derail InternetNZ's constitutional update

Free Speech Union moves threaten to derail InternetNZ’s planned constitution update. This has implications for the non-profit’s main role managing the .nz domain registry and its other work.

Ruby Retreat 2025

📣 I'm looking for new opportunities! I am a software engineer with 15+ years of experience in Ruby/Rails and 2+ years in Elixir/Phoenix. I have built open source libraries and frameworks used by companies such as Apple, Netflix, and Shopify. Let's talk!

I’m excited to announce a new #Ruby event for this year: Ruby in Common 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

We'll gather in Sydney in April for an unconf-style day of sharing around new and evolving approaches to app building with Ruby.

If you’re interested in Ruby’s greater diversity of tools (think Hanami, dry-rb, ROM, Literal, Trailblazer, Packwerk, Roda, Phlex, Bridgetown and more), then this is the place for you!

I hope I can see some of you there!

I want you all to know that @jodosha & @timriley are incredible[1] and kind maintainers.

Hanami 2.1 RC2 came out this week and deserves all of your giddy Ruby-loving attention: https://hanamirb.org/blog/2023/11/08/hanami-210rc2/

The 2.1 release is coming soon, so it's a great time to support this excellent Ruby project and amplify this major milestone.

Thanks to @parndt for sneaking this nice little improvement into hanami-view before our 2.1 release: https://github.com/hanami/view/pull/237

Now you can pass a custom layout at view render-time, which is useful if you want to skip layout rendering altogether in the case of views being served for HTMX-driven requests!

Allow layout to be passed in `View#call` by parndt · Pull Request #237 · hanami/view

In order to be able to render a view but with a different layout to the one that is expected, we need to allow the layout to be specified, or to be removed by passing nil or false, in the call inte...

Ruby Retreat had pretty much everything - interesting talks, great conversations, snowmen & snowball fights, werewolf games, toboggan rides, at least one Hannah Arendt quote, and so many brilliant, kind, welcoming Rubyists. The very best of weekends. Thank you @parndt & @psdavey ❤️👏🏻☺️
