1/ Russian soldiers are having to sue military hospitals to prove that they were injured in combat, so that they can receive the compensation payments they were promised. It highlights how the Russian state's bureaucracy is continuing to harm its own soldiers. ⬇️

Lol at the job title / subject mismatch.

But yeah, total wind build this year is likely to be about 124GW. Solar's likely to be about 599GW, but remember solar capacity factors are 9-30% and wind capacity factors are usually 30-60%.

Time to make 2024 updates to my annual “opinions about solar” thread.

If you like these, the second edition of my book, Solar Power Finance Without The Jargon is out.

"She wants no 'Merry Christmas'"? I mean, for fuck's sake, this is from Christmas 2023. This past fucking Christmas. Even her Jewish husband is saying, "Merry Christmas." Just fuck off forever.

Totally Sane & Not Weird Trump says that he saved Christmas when he was president but now Kamala Harris is going to ban it, and only he can stop it from being canceled.

#JDVance wants a dystopian future:

This year he endorsed a new book co-written by a far-R conspiracy-monger that calls progressives “unhumans” & claims they're waging an “Irregular Communist Revolution” against American civilization.

Unhumans was written by Posobiec & Lisec -professes to be a history of communist & leftist revolutionary abuses -claim: “kill the pol who have more”. These “ppl of anti-civilization”: communists, socialists, leftists, & progressives.

Crazy-good story from @zackwhittaker:

"A little-known spyware maker based in Minnesota has been hacked, TechCrunch has learned, revealing thousands of devices around the world under its stealthy remote surveillance.

A person with knowledge of the breach provided TechCrunch with a cache of files taken from the company’s servers containing detailed device activity logs from the phones, tablets, and computers that Spytech monitors, with some of the files dated as recently as early June.

TechCrunch verified the data as authentic in part by analyzing some of the exfiltrated device activity logs that pertain to the company’s chief executive, who installed the spyware on one of his own devices. "

We know that Labour has many things to fix (and many are not confident they can or even have the will to), but on homelessness, they surely cannot do worse than the previous Govt.

In the 14 years the Tories were in power, the number of households in temporary accommodation (which effectively means homeless) over doubled; from 50,000 to 110,000 between 2010-2024... having fallen (by half) in the previous eight years.

If Labour cannot reverse this trend, then what are they for?

The sky was looking ominous so I asked Siri, “Surely, it’s not going to rain today, is it?”

And she replied, “Yes it is, and don’t call me Shirley.”

That was when I realised I’d left my phone in Airplane mode.

Sadly not the first time, Savita Halappanavar died in Ireland for that reason.

She was miscarrying yet refused an abortion due to the law and died of sepsis.

"They used to throw women in the water to see if they were witches. If they drowned, they were innocent. Now they're saying the only #abortion exception is if the woman's life is at risk. If she dies, she was at risk.

You can see the recurring flaw in the methodology."
