Of course, of course on the day I released the first (afaik) Misskey fork where you can follow hashtags in Home, Evan would launch a service for everyone on fedi to follow hashtags. Just my luck smh 😁

I really missed this - getting feedback on fedi software and collectively finding ways to make it work better for whomever uses it! I loved it on Firefish, and I love it even more now with Catodon, where I have total freedom to change things. It obviously doesn't have the same impact as Firefish (yet? 😼), but Calckey/Firefish took several months to take off - in the first couple of months very few people noticed it. Even if it's for ten people though, to me it's still a magic thing. Thank you for sharing this with me =)
GERM-Custom Feeds integrated in the timeline. You can define a custom feed using hashtags, keywords, and phrases. Setting "Add to Home" populates your main feed with it, similar to following a hashtag on Mastodon but more powerful. You can follow "Drag Race" as well as #DragRace, or just create full feeds of curated interests.
-Integrated GIF search!
-Massively improved threading and replies. They behave just like they would on any other social media—you see the thread of posts all grouped together once, and only once. No clicking for context or giant threads clogging up your whole feed.
And ofc some general Misskey features I think are underappreciated!:
-Emoji reacts
-Storage drive! Imagine having a whole drive to keep your memes in at the ready. That's what this is for.
-Scheduled posts
-Built for longer posting in general, more like a massively reimagined Facebook than a Twitter clone imo.
-not ugly
idk I think it's pretty great! I think regular people would like the fediverse better if their impression of it looked a little more like this

OK, hope this goes well 😅 - first time doing this, so please don't be harsh if anything goes wrong. I've done all the testing I could, but if you see any bugs, please just let me know. If needed, I'll do a follow-up hotfix release.
So, what else can I say? A few months ago I thought Catodon was a dead project, so this is a bit surreal. But here we are - I've worked my ass off for the last couple of months, and I hope you like this. I still have some major features coming up in the next releases, so this will only get better, but I'm really proud of this first release too. Anything that annoyed you in Firefish or Sharkey is probably fixed here (and if not, let me know what it is so that I can address it in the next releases!). This is the fedi software I wanted to use for myself day-to-day, and I've made the experience as smooth as I could. It will make me purr with joy if other people enjoy this as well. Cheers =)

@panos When I ran my own Firefish instance, this was the one thing that drove me up the wall so much that I turned off reposts completely.
The hardest part of preparing Catodon's first release is to remember everything I've implemented, to include in the release notes
Just fixed a Misskey bug that has annoyed me since I came to fedi on 2022, where reposts from users you have blocked appear in your timeline, leaving you wondering why would you see a post from them after a block.
