I've been trying out Catodon and really like it! It massively debloats aspects of Sharkey I found overwhelming, and fixes a lot of things that annoy me about Firefish+Iceshrimp.

I will probably be migrating my instance to it... whenever I have time to learn how to do such a thing 😅

-Custom Feeds integrated in the timeline. You can define a custom feed using hashtags, keywords, and phrases. Setting "Add to Home" populates your main feed with it, similar to following a hashtag on Mastodon but more powerful. You can follow "Drag Race" as well as #DragRace, or just create full feeds of curated interests.

-Integrated GIF search!

-Massively improved threading and replies. They behave just like they would on any other social media—you see the thread of posts all grouped together once, and only once. No clicking for context or giant threads clogging up your whole feed.

And ofc some general Misskey features I think are underappreciated!:

-Emoji reacts

-Storage drive! Imagine having a whole drive to keep your memes in at the ready. That's what this is for.

-Scheduled posts

-Built for longer posting in general, more like a massively reimagined Facebook than a Twitter clone imo.

-not ugly

idk I think it's pretty great! I think regular people would like the fediverse better if their impression of it looked a little more like this

The only feature I'm really missing from Mastodon at this point is auto deleting posts 😭 That was so nice to set it & forget it

@germ I thought that was a feature? I follow lots of people whose toots self-distruct, but maybe that's a third-party or client service.

@ibwatson It is a feature on Mastodon 😄 I'm not on Mastodon any more tho, moved to Iceshrimp and am now considering a move to this new Catodon. It's the only feature from Mastodon I hope gets integrated one day.

The main problem is that in Misskey (and forks) when you delete a post, all of the replies are also gone. So this needs to be solved first. I've seen discussion in Sharkey about this, so I hope it gets implemented upstream. But it's a feature others have requested too, so if it's not implemented upstream by the end of the year or so, I'll figure it out on my own @ibwatson

@germ I knew I'd forget to put something important in the release notes! Character limit for posts is 5000 (vs 3000 in Sharkey).
