@nikos The study touches upon the negotiations/debate re: a privileged moderation treatment of news on platforms in the DSA - which failed to pass but returned in the EMFA! argue that “proposals like the non-interference principle are far from perfect but they are erring towards the right direction” due to the value inherent in editorial processes in distributing information for democratic deliberation and a healthier/reliable public sphere.
I seek to propose a different framing of capture, as a concept to scrutinise platform power rather than gauge platforms’ influence on editorial decisions or journalists’ professionalism, as noted by others. “As a result, capture here is also understood as a situation wherein platforms emerge as the only solution for news organizations to survive and cope with the recurring crises.”
